In the dog fancy, enthusiasm often develops among breeders to "specialize";
whereupon certain colors, strains, coat types, or general appearances or ability which
they favor becomes a goal for their kennel. One way of attempting to establish uniformity
to their goals is to inbreed.
A study of foundation dog photos and their pedigrees can be especially enlightening
'snapshots in Time'. Sometimes breeders succeed in 'fixing' a certain 'look' (and perhaps,
other unexpected genetic tendencies) to the dogs of their specific kennels. Others take a
different route and contribute yet more variables.
It is this same general tendency to select by phenotype, which causes shifts in native
dogs regional types - each one playing a part in a snapshot of time.
